Launch of Media Project – December 16th, 2008

For the first time in the history of NTEA Communications Department we were able to send out a press release utilizing the data from our very own IMIS. To those involved in this know IT IS A BIG DEAL! I thought I would never see this day, I am getting a little teary eyed!

This has been truly a labor of love for the many involved with this project – it all started in summer of 2005 and it was mine and my then Communication’s Director Gwen Brown’s idea to have this information in our centralized database. After doing much programming to accommodate the needs of this new venture and importing all the records in iMIS using iMIS’s cumbersome import utility around end of summer , the person in charge of this Media project found more lucrative opportunity decided to leave us. The new hire did not show too much interest with this whole initiative or any intention of keeping the database up-to-date, so the whole thing kind of choked in infancy.

Again in summer of 2008, our membership director Steve Carey showed interest in this project and went through the trouble of creating a wireframe for us that would meet all the objectives of this project.

Once the new infrastructure was created in iMIS, came the daunting task of data entry and that put the data integrity of this database in serious jeopardy. There were non-member individuals attached to Member companies, there were all sorts of formatting issues, needless to say it was a database administrator’s worst nightmare. (Yours truly was having getting depressed and felt like needed major therapy).

After seeing the dilapidated state that the media records were in, our awesome Member Services Coordinator Luci Pfaff, stepped up to the plate and had the whole database whipped back in shape within 6 weeks.

Yesterday on December 16th, 2008 we sent out the press release using only and only iMIS database data pull.

Now how awesome is that! At this point I cannot even fathom the number of man hours we have spent on this beast! From this point on – it will only get better.

Here are a few people I would like to thank for making this project possible
Thanks to Alison Kroll– for being proactive on this project and for sharing Steve’s and my vision, big kudos to Luci Pfaff for actually doing the work and thanks to Steve Carey for laying the ground work for this. Last, but not least, thanks to Kristen Simpson for her ever willingness to lend her expertise in making this project successful.
